The City of Ekurhuleni Chief Whip Cllr. Jongizizwe Dlhabathi held an Award Ceremony event for Grade 12 learners at his former school Tlakula Secondary in KwaThema on Saturday.

Earlier on this year the Chief Whip decided to adopt the school and introduced various programmes in mitigating poor performance by learners. This comes in the backdrop of a low pass rate by the class of 2016 matriculants in the School.

90 learners from various secondary schools in the area have been introduced to Ntsane Education Programme, which is aimed at assisting learners to improve in Mathematics, Physical Science and accountancy subjects.

The programme seems to yield results as more than 10 learners received awards on Saturday for their excellent performance in the above mentioned subjects.

During his key note address at the ceremony Dlhabathi made a call for partnership between learners, parents and teachers. He said the learning process should not be reduced to teachers and learners only but parents have a role to play as well in the upliftment of the education of their Children.
