Engen garage Tsakane Ext 11
Ekurhuleni East cluster (EEC) police are yet to make any arrest in connection with a robbery which took place earlier this week at Engen garage in Tsakane, Extension 11.
A group of unknown armed suspects driving a Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles arrived at the filling station pretending to fill their cars with petrol. Much to the surprise of the Petrol Attendants, they were all of a sudden pointed with rifles believed to be AK47’s, before being ordered to lock themselves into one of the offices.
It is alleged that Petrol Attendants then heard a huge banging sound shortly after being forced into the office.
That is when an off-duty policeman, who is stationed at Actonville SAPS attached to VISPOL, fell into the robbery in progress while on his way back from work. The suspects fired several shots at him but the officer managed to survive the onslaught unscathed.
According EEC spokesperson, Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate, cases of business robbery, ATM bombing and attempted murder were opened and investigations are continuing.
Major General Girly Mbhele expressed her shock to hear about the incident. She then reminded members under her cluster to exercise caution whilst on or off duty to avoid attacks.
